Account and Data Deletion
This page explains how to delete your Werugo account and the personal data associated with it. The procedure complies with Google Play's Account deletion requirement and with the Apple App Store Review Guidelines (section 5.1.1 (v)).
Option 1 — From the App (recommended)
- Open the Werugo app on your iOS or Android device.
- Sign in to your account if you have not already.
- Go to Profile → Settings → Account.
- Tap "Delete my account".
- Confirm the deletion by entering your password or the code sent by SMS / e-mail.
Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Option 2 — By e-mail
If you no longer have access to the App, send a deletion request to contact@werugo.app stating:
- the e-mail address or phone number associated with your Werugo account;
- the subject of your request: "Account deletion";
- any information that can help us verify your identity.
We will process your request within a maximum of 30 days, in accordance with the GDPR. For security reasons, we may ask you for an additional confirmation before proceeding.
Data Deleted
At the end of the deletion procedure, the following data is erased from our active systems:
- profile information (last name, first name, display name, date of birth, picture);
- e-mail address and phone number;
- preferences and settings;
- user content (reviews, photos, comments) or its anonymisation where applicable;
- push notification tokens;
- browsing history and favourites.
Data Retained — Legal Obligations
Certain data may be retained exceptionally and securely, solely for the purposes and for the durations required by law:
- Transactional and accounting data (reservation history, invoices, financial movements): retained for 10 years, in accordance with the Maltese Companies Act and EU accounting obligations.
- Anti-fraud data: retained for a maximum of 13 months.
- Data necessary to establish or evidence a right or a contract: retained for the applicable statutory limitation periods.
- Reports and moderated content which led to a moderation decision: retained for up to 1 year from the date of the report.
This residual data is archived securely, with restricted access, and is no longer used to contact you or power our services. It is deleted at the end of the above retention periods.
Data Handled by Our Processors
Our technical processors (Firebase, Stripe, Resend, Google Maps) may also temporarily retain technical logs or payment data under their own regulatory retention periods. We forward your deletion request to them as soon as we receive it.
Consequences of Deletion
- Any ongoing reservation or group pool will be cancelled or, if already confirmed, finalised with no remaining link to your account.
- You will no longer be able to sign in with your credentials.
- A deleted account cannot be recovered. To come back to the App, you will need to create a new account.
Your Other Rights
Beyond deletion, you may at any time request access, rectification, restriction or portability of your data by following the procedure described in our Privacy Policy.
